During the reign of Ahab, King of Israel, the land and the people suffered through a terrible drought—a drought that came as the result of Ahab doing evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him, including taking for his wife, Jezebel, an avowed idol worshipper.
In reality, it was more than just a drought without rain, but a drought without God—without God being at the center of their lives. In the pursuit of earthly prosperity, security, and even fame, the words and ways of God took on less and less importance to God’s people. And yet, God did not leave them abandoned, but sent a prophet, a man of God, Elijah to show that God can bring life even in the driest times of life.
The truth is we all go through such times in our lives. And, whether caused by our own actions or made worse by those of others, God still gives hope and strength to us so that we might find life in a spiritual drought.
