What are COR groups?
COR Groups are all about Connecting with Others Regularly. We want to give this opportunity for Memorial to be in community together through the Word and prayer. Whether you’re meeting once a month, bi-weekly, or once a week, we would love for you to be able to connect with others at church and foster relationships that endure. COR groups have only 3 to 4 families that meet to be in community, God’s Word, and prayer together.
What will a COR group gathering look like?
We encourage the meeting rhythm to be every other week for at least 1 hour. This time can vary of course, but at least 1 hour is recommended. The group can decide if food and fellowship time could take place as well. After the groups are formed, we will have a designated facilitator reach out to you to discuss time and place, in person or over zoom, and other details. We understand the busyness that fills your days, so we want to keep COR groups simple, flexible, and specific.
Two Types of COR Groups
Conversational: Are you looking for something simple? Conversational COR Groups are centered on scriptures along with open-ended questions that foster a time of sharing perspectives. This style of COR Group invites a time of listening to how the given scripture is impacting each person and discovering together what the scriptures say about God, ourselves, and how it can change us moving forward.
Focused: Are you looking for something more structured? Haven’t led a bible study before? Focused COR groups will be resourced with study helps, a general structure to guide the flow of conversation, and books to look at alongside the given scriptures. Some topic suggestions/ideas:
- The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness by Tim Keller
- Reading Romans with Luther by RJ Gruenwald
- Judges for you by Tim Keller
- The letter of 1 John
- The Book of Colossians
COR Groups Are Seasonal
Our first COR Groups started in the Spring of 2022, and they went through the gospel of Mark together asking these 3 questions:
- What is this chapter saying about God and His plan?
- What is this chapter saying about me and broken humanity?
- How is this going to change me moving forward?
Our Fall seasons run from September through December and our Spring seasons run from March to May. Can’t commit for this season? Feel free to jump into the following season or the one after that!
Please Pray
- Is this a rhythm that the Lord is calling you to participate in right now?
- Has the Spirit put an urge in your heart for a consistent small community as you follow Jesus with others?
