Rev. John Davis, Senior Pastor
Pastor John Davis grew up in the greater Houston area (No, he is not a native Texan, but he got here as fast as he could) and graduated from Cypress Creek High School in 1981, and from Texas A&M University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1985. Upon graduation from college, he received his commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he served as a surface warfare officer on board the USS Nicholson (DD-982), a destroyer home-ported in Charleston, South Carolina. Pastor Davis left the Navy in 1989 and enrolled at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. Upon completion of his studies, he was called to Memorial in Katy as an associate pastor. He served in Katy for six years, then for eight years in Giddings, Texas at Immanuel Lutheran Church, until the Lord said it was time to come home to Katy to serve as Senior Pastor.
Pastor Davis is blessed with a beautiful bride, Brenda (she is a native Texan!), as well as four children: Sarah (and husband Shawn), Laura (and husband Mike), Hannah, and John (and wife Sarah) and grandchildren Christina, Timothy, John, and Wesley. A self-avowed sports junkie, Pastor enjoys playing golf, wishes he could still play baseball, and dabbles at tennis. He loves the Astros and college football and will watch anything with his beloved Aggies. However, his greatest passion is sharing the Good News of Jesus with others and helping them live the life of a disciple, so that the community of Christ might be extended wherever we go!
Ben Spaulding, Associate Pastor - Deployed Missionary
Dimas Jimenez, Associate Pastor - Spanish Ministry
Pastor Dimas was born in Chorrera, West Panama, 1 of 10 children - five boys and five girls. He was raised by his grandparents from an early age, and it is through their influence, Dimas learned the Gospel message and a love for the scriptures. Also very important to his growing faith, were the neighbor missionaries from "New Tribes Missions."
Dimas was baptized at eight years old, and was a child with a real thirst and hunger for God's Word. He attended the women's Bible study and graduated with them. During his teenage years, Dimas lead and taught the youth and by 16 years old he was teaching the adult class.
In 1982, while working with missionaries from International Crusades, he was encouraged to become a Pastor. In 1989, he graduated from seminary in Panama, and later that year married his wife, Ana Maria. They have two adult sons, Dimas and Kabir.
Pastor Dimas worked in Panama with the local and national leadership as a Baptist while at the same time developing a national preaching ministry which took him all around his country and even outside of it's borders. In 2001, Pastor Dimas arrived in Houston, TX to work with Pastor Mark Junkans among the Hispanic community. In 2001, Pastor Dimas was called to serve at Memorial Lutheran Church, Katy where he continues to serve today. (Find out more info on our ACTS page.)
Nathan Engman, Director of Discipleship
Nathan Engman is proud to say that he grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma. (I hope you got the Merle Haggard reference.) He graduated from Muskogee High School in 1999, and from Concordia University Austin in 2005 with a Director of Christian Education degree. While studying at Concordia, he met his wonderful wife Sarah and they got married in the summer of 2005. Upon graduation from CUA, he served as a DCE intern here at Memorial Lutheran Church for that year. After the internship was over, he received and accepted the call to serve here as the Director of Youth Ministries in June of 2006. Since then he has earned a master's degree in Youth Ministry Leadership from Huntington University. Nathan’s role has changed over the years and now serves as the Director of Discipleship for Memorial. Beyond his wonderful wife Sarah, Nathan has three boys: Samuel, Luke, and Jonathan.
He loves to be active and play sports. He especially loves playing Disc Golf. Give him a call if you ever want to go play a round or two. He also enjoys playing video games, reading, and attending the games, concerts, and performances of our youth and children. His greatest passion though is being a disciple of Christ and encouraging both students and adults to be disciples as well. There is no greater joy for him than to watch God breakthrough into people's lives. He is excited that as he follows Christ, he gets to be a part of extending Christ's community here in Katy and beyond.
Amber Reed, Director of Children's Discipleship
Amber was born and raised in suburbs of Houston, TX. She has had a heart to love and serve young children from an early age. Following this passion, she chose to study to become a Director of Christian Education at Concordia University Texas in Austin, TX. During her education, she had the opportunity to travel to Haiti, Botswana, and Cambodia to serve impoverished children. Through those experiences, she felt called to choose an international internship placement. In May 2017, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education from CTX and accepted an internship placement in Tanzania, Africa. In Tanzania, she worked with children in a preschool setting and young women with albinism, who are often abandoned and outcasted in the Tanzanian communities. Upon the completion of her internship, Amber received and accepted the call to serve here as the Director of Children’s Discipleship. She is so excited to see what adventures God has planned for her here a part of the Memorial family.
Amber and her husband, Austin, were married on August 2016. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants with Austin, reading new books, and traveling to new places. But by far, what brings her heart the most joy is sharing the love that Jesus has for us to children of all ages!
