Kindergarten

Memorial Lutheran's Kindergarten The Memorial Lutheran Kindergarten program meets from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. This time schedule is ideal for transitioning into an all day program for 1st grade. For Christian training we have a Jesus Story Time and Chapel Time once a week. Bible stories from Genesis to Paul are taught each week, along with a Bible memory verse and Bible song. Both Pastors, D.C.E., School Director and Teachers are involved. Each Week the students enjoy Gross Motor Time where they learn various physical games and skills to prepare them for 1st grade. Cooking experiences are also used to reinforce phonemic and thematic learning. We use the Saxon reading curriculum. One week is devoted to the introduction of each letter, to allow plenty of time for practice. The children learn the sound, name and written form of each letter. The children create words by blending sounds and spell by unblending sounds. A word list is sent home once a week and a new book is introduced every other week. Supplemental readers are sent home to encourage and practice reading. The children participate in games and activities that motivate, reinforce and remediate. For writing practice we use the D'Nealian manuscript. The children learn to write each letter using this style manuscript. We us the Saxon mathematics curriculum. Using a variety of multisensory and manipulatives the children learn many mathematics skills. Various social studies and science concepts are presented through weekly themes and Weekly Readers. Our student to teacher ratio is 10 to 1. No more than 16 students will be in a class with 1 teacher and 1 aid. Our teachers are certified experienced teachers with bachelor degrees in education and a strong Christian faith.
Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
